Baby Gifts

As long as I can remember, I have ALWAYS loved babies. Just a sweet reminder of how God choose to start people. So when I was trusted in secrecy with the news of a dear friends upcoming second adoption, I wanted to not only purchase a gift for her sweet baby girl, but I also wanted to make something by hand. I felt so honored that I was one of the trusted few to carry such an awesome secret!

Months earlier, Mary circulated a bib pattern from the Nested blog...too cute. That is what I would make along with another pattern that I had come across in the Bend-the-Rules Sewing book. And then to create a gift of three, I purchased some cloth diapers by Gerber, washed them up and sewed coordinating fabric along the middle pad.

The set turned out beautiful, in the midst of numerous imperfections...still working on the hand sewing task! I cannot figure out why I need to hand sew when I have a machine. I am also working on turning tiny corners like the ends of the bib closures, so any advice in this area is also appreciated. And if anyone has any advice on cleaning up the diapers after a wash, I am all ears. After the diapers were washed, they had a number of fabric balls that I had to remove with an electric lint remover. Once they were ironed, they looked A LOT better but still not as crisp as they did when pulled from the package. And last but not least, can you really machine sew the velcro circles? I had to hand sew mine!

Oh, I almost forgot...I definitely used Amy Butler fabric!!!
Thanks for looking!

They look incredible! Most people don't notice the imperfections... and you will find you notice them less the next time you look at it! You did a great job!

Hi!
I just came across your blog today! I actually came across your other blog (family) and adoption. I will definitely put you on my list. I loved your adoption journey. Feel free to visit my blog. We are in the middle of a domestic adoption now.

I love these items that you have made. I am a native of NC, but hubby and I do not reside there. My family and parents are still there. I have heard of your agency as well when we initially started our process

I forgot to mention that I haven't had any problems with the fabric balls on my diapers -- YET though, because alot of people have complained recently about that, that are using them for sewing and embroidery. I am planning on ordering some from a place called Stitched and Stamped, they supposedly have great quality. You can order them by the dozen. I'm planning on ordering some soon because I have some baby gifts to make, so I'll let you know how they are.
